Born and raised in the historic Jackson Ward of Richmond, VA. James L. Thornhill creatively known as Sir James L. Thornhill is a gifted American artist, muralist and photographer. He attended Open High School with an emphasis on art and fashion designing and screen printing. His creativity flourished during this time and he found himself embarking on the journey of an artist.
James studied various art forms and mediums which included photography, oil and acrylic painting, watercolor, oriental painting, theater arts and fashion at VCU, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond Technical Center, and John Tyler Community College, Grand Central Academy of Art.He is also an Aviation Artist with the Air force art program,and teaches with the afters School program and the Mayor’s Youth Academy for the last 5 years his Murals can be seen throughout RVA communities
